Holiday weekend

Had a bit of a random holiday weekend with good friends, food, and beautiful land.  I'll be sure to share some pics of the safari expedition, but in the meantime, here are some randoms.
(In order from top to bottom: Corsica, Paris, Alaska, Maine, Kenya, San Francisco)

Hurricane Katia's Gift

Hurricane Katia was pretty friendly to us islanders a few weeks ago.  Long period groundswell stirred up from way out to sea combined with beautiful sunshiny skies made for a perfect day in the water.  This spot featured here is getting to be pretty well known (as evidenced by the crowds) but I went to another place in the morning that was much bigger--and top secret.  The top secret spot also cost me a surfboard, snapped in half by the sheer force of the water.  I'll be back soon...

Surfing in Style

Happy Cinco de Mayo!  As you've probably guessed, there is quite a bit of surfing to be had on Miles Island.  Everywhere you look there's a beautiful point break, a beach with a nice hollow left, a reef that kicks up a gnarly wall...

Some of the islanders like to arrive to the surf breaks in style-- Chanel, to be specific.  Although I don't recall ever seeing Karl Lagerfeld in the water (has anyone ever seen him without a suit?), plenty of folks sport Chanel boards and apparel.  If the longboards ever go on clearance, maybe I'll even get one!  And yes, hats and heels aren't just for the Royal Wedding -- they're also in vogue at the beach... typically not worn while surfing, with some exceptions.

Oh, and we sometimes bring boomerangs to keep the seagulls away from our gourmet surf brunches.
