 Well, not all yellow.  In the middle of the basket was a whole cornucopia of colorful fruit.  Who needs the grocery store when you can get fresh fruit from a friendly mama?  Love how the baby's feet stick out in the front.

Fruit Loopy Penguins

 Hiya everyone... we've finished our voyage east and now I can start to take a look back at all the adventures that have taken place over the last couple months.  Miles Island will be looking a little more tropical in upcoming posts, so I thought I'd do a post about our local penguins before I forget about them.

Pictured above, we have a local resident peacefully eating her fruit loops...

 But suddenly she hears a disturbing waddling sound behind her.

 Please feed us! the local penguins cry out.  (They're actually not that hungry since they're quite well-fed, but they pretend to be so when sugary cereal is available)

 Ah, ok, says Amy.

Yum, say the penguins.  Do you have another spoon?

At the Island Farmer's Market

 Wow, these photos makes me hungry.  These were all at this week's island farmer's market... it's so much fun to see how the selection of produce changes as the seasons change.  Uh oh, it's mid-summer already!!  How are your gardens doing?  I'm looking forward to tomatoes... our neighbor has just started leaving little bags of cherry tomatoes on our door handle.  Next up, heirlooms!

 

 

 

 

Fresh Sourdough

 Mmmmmm, fresh sourdough.  I know what I'm eating this weekend!  Kathryn, our island baker, has been hard at work learning and perfecting the fine art of breadmaking.  A friend of ours swears it's the best food for ultramarathons, and I'm inclined to agree since my Birkie times have been the fastest after a feast of sourdough.  Add a little olive oil and you've got yourself a dream.  (More pics later of the actual breadmaking process...)

Fresh Rhubarb, Radishes, and Onions

 I took these photos at our island market this past weekend... so great to see some beautiful fresh colorful produce after a long winter!  Most people were selling rhubarb, onions, and some radishes, but the selection will diversify as the season progresses.  What's fresh in your neck of the woods?
