Tweed Run
We like our bikes on the island, as you well know by now. And we like our tweed and hats. Last weekend I serendipitously chanced upon some of our most stylish riders participating in the Tweed Run. Bikes, hats, bikes, tweed, bikes, fancy socks, bikes, pipes, bikes, shoes, bikes, all in one place? You gotta be kidding me. As you can probably imagine, I went a little crazy with the pictures, and this will be the first post of what I hope will be many. It seemed fitting that this was my last photoshoot in the city for a while, especially since up until now I'd only been able to capture fleeting glimpses of this kind of style which I so enjoy. Bike on, chap!

Mind the Cap
Snow in April!? Winter's last gasp? I think so. Love the blues and reds happening here. What are good camera settings for capturing snowflakes, by the way?
Elephant Traffic Jam
Here on the island we like to pride ourselves in rather empty, peaceful roads. Most people walk or bike of course, and the few cars we have are classy antiques and rugged jeeps. But every once in a while we have island traffic jams... (all photos from Akagera National Park, Rwanda)
[EDITOR'S NOTE: We're now back in the land of elephants, so please come visit us to experience these traffic jams yourself!]

Yep, this is going to be a long wait. [30 minutes later] Think we can slip by? Yep, let's try driving really really slow. Very very sneaky. shhhhhh.....
OH NO!!!! Objects in mirror are closer than they appear. Yep, check. (I think he had a stop sign but you never want to make assumptions about these things.)
Ok, time to put the pedal to the metal. Hang on!
Phew, made it through. Typical island driver ahead of us led the way. That kid sure knew how to get through traffic.
Aww, see, they're cute. What's the big deal?
WHOA. Would not have wanted a collision with that little guy's papa. Our jeep was approximately as high as this guy's eye.
I can still feel the ground shaking.
Ok, looks like traffic is slowly starting to clear. Gotta love island rush hour. And elephants.

Gentlemen and Their Hats
Look at this guy's glasses, will you? I was in a pub yesterday where there were suggested beer pairings... well, this is a suggested glasses and hat pairing. Lately I've been noticing a lot of really stylish hats being worn by gentlemen on the street. And I've seen some pretty fantastic hats worn by ladies too, for that matter. Spring is in the air, and out come the hats. This post is the first in a series exploring this theme. If you're not a hat person, these might not interest you... or maybe you'll become convinced! Carry on.

Horses of Mull
(Calgary, Isle of Mull, Scotland)
Sometimes beautiful things just come to you. I kept running out of space on my memory card and needing to delete pictures while these guys kept nuzzling me. Thankfully some onlookers had biscuits for their affable posing. Mull has some of the best lighting and freshest air I've ever breathed, especially on this day by the water.
(If you like island horses by the way, you may also like this post.)

Those shoes!
Those shoes! Any guesses on the designer? Those are isosceles triangles in case your geometry is a bit fuzzy and you were wondering.
Recall:
and thus the height of each of those black and white triangles on her wedges can be described as
Also love her tangerine jacket... color up your day, I say.
It's almost as if Sol Lewitt decided he wanted to go off and design a shoe.
